“보성 조정화 농가, 전남 으뜸한우 종합챔피언 등극!”

전라남도가 6일 개최한 ‘제41회 전라남도 으뜸한우 경진대회’에서 보성군 조정화 농가가 영예의 종합챔피언을 차지했다. 또 고급육 부문 대상에는 광양시 서병근 농가가 선정되는 등 도내 한우농가 23곳이 우수성과를 거뒀다.

이번 경진대회는 전남 한우의 품질 경쟁력 향상과 개량 성과 확산을 위해 매년 열리는 행사로, 올해는 도내 각 시군에서 출품한 113두(우량한우 85두·고급육 28두)가 출전해 열띤 경합을 벌였다.

심사는 한국종축개량협회 전남광주지역본부와 축산물품질평가원 광주전남지원이 공동으로 맡았으며, 우량한우 20두, 고급육 3두, 그리고 우수 시군·축협 각 3곳이 최종 선정됐다.

■ 종합챔피언 ‘보성 조정화 농가’
종합챔피언으로 선정된 조정화 농가의 출품 한우는 균형 잡힌 체형과 우수한 발육, 십자부고(엉덩이 윗부분 높이) 등에서 높은 평가를 받았다.

특히 밀식사육을 지양하고, 넓고 쾌적한 환경에서 사육하며 스트레스를 최소화한 점, 전남도 송아지 브랜드 사업 참여 등 체계적 개량관리가 높은 점수를 받았다.

■ 고급육 부문 대상 ‘광양 서병근 농가’
고급육 대상에 오른 서병근 농가는 발효사료를 직접 제조해 자유채식 형태로 사육함으로써 근내지방 분포와 육질을 최적화했다.

평가 결과, 얇은 등지방·넓은 단면적·균형 잡힌 육질로 최고 점수를 받았으며, 경매가격 2,785만 원(㎏당 5만1천 원, 546㎏·29개월령)에 낙찰되는 기록을 세웠다.

■ “AI 첨단축산으로 돈 버는 농촌 실현”
김영록 전라남도지사는 “전남은 체계적 개량과 안전한 사육환경을 바탕으로 대한민국 한우산업의 중심지로 자리매김했다”며 “앞으로도 AI 첨단 축산업 육성을 통해 지속 가능한 농촌과 돈 버는 축산기반을 만들어가겠다”고 강조했다.

전남도는 최근 열린 2024 전국한우경진대회에서 장관상 등 다수의 수상 실적을 거둔 데 이어, 전국한우능력평가대회 국무총리상, 전국축산물품질평가대회 대통령상을 수상하며 전남 한우의 위상을 더욱 높이고 있다.

— Gwangyang’s Seo Byung-geun Wins Top Prize in Premium Beef Category… Yeongam County and Yeongam Livestock Cooperative Selected as Best County and Cooperative —
Jeollanam-do announced on the 6th that Cho Jeong-hwa Farm in Boseong County was awarded the prestigious Overall Champion at the 41st Jeonnam Premium Hanwoo Contest. In addition, the Top Prize in the Premium Beef category went to Seo Byung-geun Farm in Gwangyang, with a total of 23 local Hanwoo farms recognized for outstanding achievements.
The contest, held annually to enhance the quality competitiveness of Jeonnam Hanwoo and promote breeding improvements, featured 113 cattle entries (85 premium Hanwoo, 28 premium beef) from across the province.
Judging was conducted jointly by the Korea Association for Improvement of Livestock Breeds, Jeonnam-Gwangju Regional Headquarters, and the Korea Institute for Animal Products Quality Evaluation, Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch. Among the entries, 20 premium Hanwoo and 3 premium beef cattle were selected, along with 3 counties and 3 cooperatives recognized for excellence.
(The Premium Beef Evaluation was held on September 10th with an auction, followed by the awards ceremony on November 6th.)
■ Overall Champion: Cho Jeong-hwa Farm (Boseong)
The winning Hanwoo from Cho Jeong-hwa Farm was highly rated for its balanced physique, excellent growth, and prominent cross-rump height, indicators of outstanding development.
The farm was praised for avoiding overcrowded farming, providing a spacious and comfortable environment to minimize stress, and participating in Jeonnam’s Calf Brand Program, reflecting a systematic approach to livestock improvement.
■ Premium Beef Top Prize: Seo Byung-geun Farm (Gwangyang)
Seo Byung-geun Farm, the winner of the Premium Beef category, produces its own fermented feed and allows cattle to graze freely, optimizing intramuscular fat distribution and meat quality.
The judged cattle demonstrated thin back fat, wide cross-sectional area, and well-balanced meat quality, earning top scores. At auction, the winning animal was sold for KRW 27.85 million (₩51,000/kg, 546kg, 29 months old).

■ “Building Profitable, Sustainable Farms with AI-Driven Advanced Livestock”
Jeollanam-do Governor Kim Young-rok stated, “Jeonnam has established itself as the center of the Hanwoo industry in Korea, based on systematic breeding and safe rearing environments.” He added, “We will continue to develop AI-driven advanced livestock farming to create sustainable rural communities and profitable livestock businesses.”
Jeonnam has previously achieved multiple awards, including Ministerial Prizes at the 2024 National Hanwoo Contest, the Prime Minister’s Award at the National Hanwoo Ability Evaluation, and the Presidential Award at the National Livestock Quality Evaluation, further enhancing the reputation of Jeonnam Hanwoo.
