전라남도가 인도주의 가치 실현과 꾸준한 나눔 활동의 공로를 인정받아 대한적십자사로부터 회원유공장 ‘최고명예대장’을 수상했다.

전남도는 5일 도청 김대중강당에서 열린 ‘대한적십자사 창립 120주년 기념 광주전남지사 연차대회’에서 이번 상을 수상했다고 밝혔다.

대한적십자사 회원유공장 ‘최고명예대장’은 누적 기부액이 5억 원 이상인 개인 또는 단체에게 수여되는 최고 등급의 포상이다.

인도주의 정신을 꾸준히 실천한 기관에만 주어지는 명예로운 상으로, 전남도가 지방정부 차원에서 받는 것은 매우 의미 있는 성과로 평가된다.

전남도는 2017년 충남 수해복구 지원을 시작으로 2023년 튀르키예 지진 구호성금, 2025년 경북·의성 산불피해 복구 지원 등 재난과 위기 때마다 앞장서서 이웃돕기에 나서왔다.

이 같은 꾸준한 기부와 봉사활동이 이번 수상의 결정적 계기가 됐다.

김영록 전라남도지사는 영상 축사를 통해 “대한적십자사 창립 120주년을 진심으로 축하드리며, 언제나 어려운 이웃 곁을 지켜주시는 적십자 가족 여러분께 깊이 감사드린다.”고 전했다.

이어 “최근 글로벌 AI 데이터센터와 국가 AI 컴퓨팅센터가 전남에 들어서면서, 전남이 대한민국의 AI 수도로 도약할 준비를 하고 있다.”며 “AI 시대에도 사랑과 연대, 인간 존엄의 가치를 실천하는 적십자 정신이 더욱 중요하다”고 강조했다.

전라남도는 앞으로도 도민과 함께하는 나눔과 상생의 행정을 강화해 인도주의 실천의 모범 지자체로 자리매김한다는 방침이다.

— Awarded the Red Cross Membership Medal of Honor ‘Supreme Honorary Grand Award’ for Consistent Giving and Volunteer Work —
Jeonnam Province has been recognized for its commitment to humanitarian values and consistent volunteer activities, receiving the Red Cross Membership Medal of Honor ‘Supreme Honorary Grand Award’.
The award was presented on November 5 at the 120th Anniversary Commemorative Annual Meeting of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch of the Korean Red Cross, held at the Kim Dae-jung Auditorium in the provincial government building.
The Supreme Honorary Grand Award is the highest-level recognition given to individuals or organizations whose cumulative donations exceed 500 million KRW (approximately USD 370,000). It honors institutions that have consistently embodied the spirit of humanitarianism, making Jeonnam’s recognition particularly significant at the local government level.
Since supporting flood recovery efforts in Chungnam Province in 2017, Jeonnam has continuously extended help during crises, including donations for the 2023 Turkey earthquake relief and assistance for wildfire damages in Gyeongbuk and Uiseong in 2025. These consistent acts of giving and volunteering were pivotal in earning the province this prestigious award.
Governor Kim Young-rok conveyed his video message, stating, “We sincerely congratulate the Korean Red Cross on its 120th anniversary and deeply appreciate all Red Cross members who always stand by those in need.”
He added, “With the recent establishment of global AI data centers and the National AI Computing Center in Jeonnam, the province is preparing to become the AI capital of Korea. In the AI era, the Red Cross spirit of compassion, solidarity, and respect for human dignity is more important than ever.”
Jeonnam Province plans to continue strengthening programs that promote community sharing and cooperative governance, aiming to solidify its position as a model local government in humanitarian practice.
