“Preventing Disruptions to Chip Production”…KEPCO and SK hynix Cooperate on Power Equipment Operations
Agreement signed at SK hynix’s Icheon headquarters on October 1 covers equipment diagnostics, fault recovery and tailored training
KEPCO supplies 2.5 GW to Icheon and Cheongju facilities; grid construction underway to supply 5.5 GW to the Yongin cluster

Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) and SK hynix are expanding cooperation across equipment inspections, fault recovery and professional training to ensure a stable power supply for semiconductor production facilities.
KEPCO announced that the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding for the stable operation of power equipment supplying semiconductor industrial complexes at SK hynix’s headquarters in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, on October 1.
The agreement aims to respond to growing semiconductor demand driven by the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) and support reliable production operations. Semiconductor facilities can suffer production disruptions and financial losses from even momentary voltage drops or brief power outages, making power supply reliability and stable equipment operations essential.
Under the agreement, the companies will cooperate on inspections and diagnostics of SK hynix’s power equipment, exchanges of operational expertise, a rapid recovery framework for equipment failures, and tailored training programs offered by KEPCO’s Human Resources Development Institute.
According to KEPCO, it currently supplies a combined 2.5 gigawatts (GW) of power to SK hynix’s semiconductor production facilities in Icheon and Cheongju. It is also building a large-scale power grid to supply a total of 5.5 GW to the Yongin semiconductor cluster.
KEPCO completed the Dong-Yongin Substation, which will supply electricity to SK hynix’s semiconductor production facilities in Yongin, in late July. The companies said they completed preliminary checks, including joint assessments of equipment condition and detailed diagnostics, ahead of full-scale operation.
Kim Jae-gun, KEPCO’s Executive Vice President for Power Systems, said that reliably operating existing power equipment is as important as completing the grid infrastructure required for new semiconductor industrial complexes on time.
He added that KEPCO would draw on its operational experience and technical expertise to ensure a stable power supply and support the semiconductor industry’s competitiveness.
