전남광주 섬 지역 여객선 기항지 160곳에 여객터미널이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 전국 터미널 미설치 기항지의 약 3분의 2가 이 지역에 집중돼 섬 주민과 관광객을 위한 편의시설 확충이 과제로 떠올랐다.

9월 30일 서삼석 국회 농림축산식품해양수산위원장이 공개한 해양수산부 자료에 따르면, 전국 여객선 기항지 322곳 중 240곳에 여객터미널이 없었다. 전체의 74.5%다. 지역별로는 전남광주 160곳, 경남 28곳, 충남 20곳, 인천 17곳, 전북 10곳, 기타 지역 5곳 순이었다.

전남광주의 미설치 기항지는 다른 지역을 모두 합친 80곳의 두 배다. 전국 미설치 시설에서 차지하는 비중은 66.7%이며, 이는 전남광주 자체의 터미널 미설치율을 뜻하는 것은 아니다.

전국적으로 탑승대기실이 없는 기항지도 182곳으로 전체의 56.5%에 달했다. 일부 지역에서는 낡은 컨테이너나 비닐하우스를 대기공간으로 사용했으며, 진도군 양덕항의 컨테이너 대기실은 넝쿨에 덮인 모습이 보도됐다.

서 위원장은 전국 기항지 실태조사와 노후·위험시설 개선, 대기실 설치를 위한 정부 지원체계 마련을 촉구했다.

전남광주에서도 시·군별 시설 상태와 관리 주체를 확인하고, 비바람을 피할 대기공간과 냉난방·화장실 등 기본시설을 점검해 정비계획을 구체화할 필요가 있다.

A total of 160 ferry ports serving island areas in Jeonnam–Gwangju lack passenger terminals. The region accounts for approximately two-thirds of all ferry ports nationwide without terminals, highlighting the need to expand amenities for island residents and tourists.
According to Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries data released on September 30 by Seo Sam-seok, chair of the National Assembly’s Agriculture, Food, Rural Affairs, Oceans and Fisheries Committee, 240 of the country’s 322 ferry ports had no passenger terminals, representing 74.5 percent. By region, Jeonnam–Gwangju had 160 such ports, followed by South Gyeongsang with 28, South Chungcheong with 20, Incheon with 17, North Jeolla with 10, and other regions with five.
Jeonnam–Gwangju’s figure is twice the combined total of 80 in all other regions. Its 66.7 percent share refers to the national total of ports without terminals; it does not mean that 66.7 percent of ferry ports within Jeonnam–Gwangju lack terminals.
Nationwide, 182 ferry ports also lacked passenger waiting rooms, accounting for 56.5 percent of all ports. Some locations used aging shipping containers or plastic greenhouses as waiting areas. At Yangdeok Port in Jindo County, a container used as a waiting room was reportedly covered in vines.
Seo called for a nationwide survey of ferry port facilities and a government support framework to improve aging or hazardous facilities and install passenger waiting rooms.
Jeonnam–Gwangju also needs to assess facility conditions and identify the responsible management bodies in each city and county. Improvement plans should include checks on basic amenities such as sheltered waiting areas, heating and cooling, and restrooms.
