“22-Year-Old Kim Do-young Makes History”…Youngest KBO Player Ever to Reach 40 Home Runs, 100 RBIs and 100 Runs
Returns just four days after surgery for a fractured nose and completes historic milestone
Season totals reach 40 home runs, 102 RBIs and 106 runs — 18th 40-100-100 season in KBO history
Achieves milestone at 22 years, 11 months and 11 days, breaking Lee Seung-yuop’s 27-year-old record
First KIA Tigers player ever to accomplish the feat
Goes 3-for-4 with three RBIs and one run in return from injury
Shows peak form ahead of joining the Asian Games national team

A new chapter in Korean professional baseball history was written at Gwangju-KIA Champions Field.
KIA Tigers star Kim Do-young became the youngest player in KBO League history to record 40 home runs, 100 RBIs and 100 runs in a single season, achieving the milestone at the age of 22 years, 11 months and 11 days.
Kim started as the No. 3 designated hitter against the Hanwha Eagles at Gwangju-KIA Champions Field on September 13.
What made the achievement even more remarkable was his rapid return from injury.
Kim suffered a fractured nose after being struck in the face by a bunt on September 9 and underwent surgery. Just four days later, however, he returned to the starting lineup.
He immediately showed that the injury had done little to cool his bat.
With KIA leading 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Kim delivered an RBI single to left field off Hanwha starter Owen White. The hit gave him his 100th RBI of the season, completing the 40-home run, 100-RBI, 100-run milestone.
■ Breaking Lee Seung-yuop’s 27-Year-Old Record
The significance of Kim’s achievement lies not only in the numbers but also in his age.
The previous record belonged to Lee Seung-yuop, who reached the milestone with the Samsung Lions in 1999 at 22 years, 11 months and 20 days old.
Kim achieved it at 22 years, 11 months and 11 days, breaking Lee’s record by nine days after it had stood for 27 years.
A 40-home run, 100-RBI and 100-run season itself is a rare accomplishment in the KBO League.
Kim became the 18th instance and 12th individual player in KBO history to reach the milestone. He is also the first KIA Tigers player ever to do so.
■ Three Hits and Three RBIs in His Return
Kim did more than simply reach the milestone.
He finished the game 3-for-4 with one walk, three RBIs and one run scored, adding more RBIs in the seventh and eighth innings.
By the end of the game, his season totals had climbed to 40 home runs, 102 RBIs and 106 runs scored.
His three-hit performance immediately after surgery further demonstrated that he remains in outstanding offensive form.
■ Another Historic Milestone Within Reach
Kim now has another major achievement in sight.
If he finishes the season with a batting average of .300 or better, he will complete the prestigious combination of a .300 batting average, 40 home runs, 100 RBIs and 100 runs.
Only a select group of KBO sluggers, including Lee Seung-yuop, Shim Jung-soo, Park Byung-ho, Kang Jung-ho, Eric Thames, Kim Jae-hwan and Mel Rojas Jr., have accomplished the feat.
Kim is rapidly expanding his place in the record books, emerging not only as the face of the KIA Tigers but also as one of the leading stars of Korean professional baseball.
The 40-100-100 milestone requires much more than raw home-run power. It reflects a rare combination of power, run production, consistency and overall offensive impact throughout an entire season.
Coming just days after suffering a facial injury and undergoing surgery, Kim’s record-breaking performance makes his 2026 season even more remarkable.
By breaking a record that had stood for 27 years, Kim Do-young has added another unforgettable chapter to KBO League history.
